Hootoksi Tyabji, an MCG member and a Parsi, will introduce us to some of the main teachings, customs and beliefs of Zoroastrianism.

The Zoroastrian religion is one of the oldest prophetic religions of the world and its founder Zarathustra lived around 1200 BC. He was able to reform old practices and eliminate all the ancient Gods of the Iranian pantheon, leaving only Ahura Mazda, the 'Wise Lord,' as the One True God. This monotheism is central to his doctrine and from the third to the seventh century AD, Zoroastrianism was the national religion of the Persian Empire and spread in small pockets throughout the world.

It lost its privileged position in its native land with the arrival of Islam, when Zoroastrians became a barely tolerated minority. In the tenth century AD a small group of Zoroastrians landed on the west coast of India and were given sanctuary by the Hindu King, Jadi Rana. Over time the Parsis, as they came to be known, settled along the western coast and later migrated to Bombay at the invitation of the East India Company. According to Wikipedia there are roughly 150,000 Zoroastrians in the world; 31 of them live in Malaysia.
