MCG organizes a variety of Events:, lectures, demonstrations, and excursions aimed at bringing its members a better understanding of the various cultures in the region. MCG events are open to all members, although reservations are required for participation.
The Explorers Group was formed for members to get to know our environs more intimately by visiting new places, giving a different aspect to an already known area and meeting some of the interesting people who live in this fascinating city we call home. We regret that the Explorers activity has been temporarily suspended and we expect to reinstate it as soon as possible.
In addition to these monthly events, MCG members are encouraged to join our other activities:
Malaysians are known for their enjoyment of good food... and eating out is a pastime enjoyed any time of day or night! Malaysia's many cultural groups have contributed to the diversity of offerings available. By joining Enak! MCG members can enjoy and appreciate Malaysian cuisine. Enak means "delicious" in Bahasa Malaysia. This section of the Malaysian Culture Group is for "foodies" who "meet to eat."
The Book Club reads a selection each month chosen for its Southeast Asian content. Due to the high level of participation, we now have three chapters of the Book Club. Members may also make use of the extensive collection of books, magazines and articles on art, culture, and religion available in the Library.
MCG publishes a monthly Newsletter which can be read or downloaded from this website. The Newsletter gives information about upcoming events, book reviews, reports, updates, material contributed by members, the MCG President's message of the month, and other items of interest.
We are proud to offer Regional Reciprocal Attendance Agreements with associations in Singapore, Jakarta,
Bangkok and Hong Kong.

Our History
The
idea of the Malaysian Culture Group was first mooted by an American, Betty
Thomas who moved to KL from Bangkok
where she was actively involved in the Museum Group. MCG began as a study group and quickly started having lectures on religion, history and handicrafts. This all happened in early 1978. They wanted to keep the group small avoiding
all the red tape of registration, elections, audited accounts, etc. but it soon
became quite apparent that a group such as this filled a definite need in KL as
the response was very good and there were obviously many people who shared the
same desire of broadening one's understanding and appreciation of Malaysian
history and culture. Because of the number of people wanting to participate,
the MCG had to become a registered NGO and in 1982 it was formally registered,
with Datin Kay Hashim as the first elected Chairman (President). Explorers began in 1985 and the book group
several years after that. And as they say the rest is history.
